SanDisk Launchs World’s First 1TB SDXC SD Card At Photokina 2016

SanDisk world’s first 1TB SDXC card

If you handle a lot of 4K video, you'll know that most available SD cards will struggle to handle all of your high-quality footage. You will no longer face problems handling a lot of 4K, 8K, VR and 360-degree videos with no compromise on quality as SanDisk has announced the world's first 1TB SDXC card at a trade show in Germany on Wednesday. With the continuous growth of high quality video recordings and images these days, the need for a 1TB SD card is greater than ever. So this is the right moment to announce the new SD card with more storage capacity.

SanDisk, a Western Digital Brand, has launched its 512GB Extreme Pro SD card in 2014 and doubled its capacity in only two years. The storage giant released its first ever 64MB SD card 16 years ago. The new 1TB SD card represents more than 16,000 times the capacity of SanDisk's first 64MB SD card.

"Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us," said Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product management, Content Solutions Business Unit, Western Digital, in a press release. He further said, "Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD™ card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry."

"The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates," he added.

Although the company has launched then new SD card, the price for the 1TB card is still unclear. The 512GB is currently sold at Rs 23, 115. Therefore, the price of 1TB card would not be less than this.

Though the price is going to be high but videographers may be willing to spend such cost as to avoid the interruption of changing cards. Also, buying one card is sufficient enough to back up every device you have.

Stay tuned for more information regarding price and release date.
